      CONTACT LEARNING AT STADIO

If you select contact learning as your preferred mode of learning, you will be expected to attend classes on campus, as well as online. Full-time contact learning classes take place during the day, while part-time contact learning may offer classes after-hours (e.g. from 16:00) or on weekends. When you start your studies, you will join an induction programme that will introduce you to all the services, resources and functions on campus.

You will be provided with a detailed timetable at the start of the semester. All your classes, discussions and syndicate work will be indicated on this timetable. In our classes, students will engage with qualified and experienced lecturers who will facilitate their learning processes. Our lecturers are knowledgeable experts who will teach and lead discussions on contemporary challenges related to the subject matter. You will have the opportunity to contribute to your learning process and, at the same time, you will learn from the contributions of your fellow students. STADIO believes that an engaged student is a successful student, and therefore contact classes involve a range of activities, designed to assist students in developing relevant competencies.

One of the key goals of STADIO is to prepare graduates for the world of work. Contact learning students have the opportunity to meet and engage with guest lecturers who are experts from industries related to their field of study during their lectures.

As part of our teaching and learning model, contact learning students have access to a state-of-the-art virtual learning environment (VLE) where all learning material is shared, peer engagement enabled, and students are able to obtain assistance from the lecturer outside of class hours. Students also receive and submit some of their assessments in this environment and, where practical, enjoy the benefits of more individualised learning. STADIO believes in providing students with multiple opportunities to develop their understanding and be successful, and therefore students can learn from the feedback received on their assessments to improve in subsequent assessments. The complete assessment strategy of each module is communicated to students at the start of the semester on the VLE.

In addition to face-to-face lectures, students can also join online sessions via the VLE. STADIO believes in encouraging students to think and engage laterally and to consider different perspectives. The online sessions often take the form of group discussions where students must prepare prescribed material in order to contribute to the discussion and learn from one another. Contact students have easy access to the library facilities, as well as access to online databases and an eBook library. Each of our campuses also has a Centre for Student Success, where students can find not only academic support services, but also counselling and general wellness services.

One of the key skills required in the 21st century is teamwork. Contact learning students complete many tasks in groups, where they experience a safe environment to hone their leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. STADIO provides both the physical spaces and the tools required for group work, as well as the professional support to optimise group dynamics.

STADIO is committed to diversity and transformation, and STADIO’s campuses are vibrant communities of learning, where students can engage and socialise with students from different backgrounds. All our campuses are Wi-Fi enabled, and facilities for studying and group work are available.  Student recreation areas are also provided, and an on-campus canteen providing food and beverages is easily accessible.

      WHO SHOULD CONSIDER CONTACT LEARNING?

Contact learning is suited to students who are able and interested in joining face-to-face classes on a physical campus and who want to become part of a campus community. Class attendance is compulsory and therefore you should not consider this option if you are unable to regularly attend classes on campus.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM STADIO?

You can expect vibrant teaching on relevant and innovative curricula by expert lecturers who aim to engage all students in the learning process. Our programmes are focused on discipline learning, skills and creating networks that ensure that our students are prepared for the changing world of work. However, your holistic development is also important to us and we aim to inculcate the values of social consciousness and responsible citizenship in our graduates. In addition, you have access to a range of resources and facilities on campus, designed to support not only your learning journey, but also your social and emotional wellbeing. STADIO provides support towards student success at each step of the learning process and you will always have access to assistance.

WHAT STADIO WILL EXPECT FROM YOU

STADIO believes that the key to academic success is motivation, engagement and hard work. Not only will you be required to attend classes, but you will also be expected to come prepared, so that the classroom time can be optimised to achieve the desired learning outcomes. Furthermore, STADIO expects all students to act in accordance with the principles of the Student Code of Conduct and institutional values at all times, whether on campus or not.
